13th Street Pelican
Pelicans
are water birds that have been the inspiration for many art works. My
first memorized poem was "The Pelican" by Ogden Nash. Not a favorite
with my parental units but still a great poem. I painted this pelican
because I have seen them flying around the dock at 13th
Street south in Cocoa Beach. They would fly over, coming closer
and even mooching fish when I
caught them. Brown Pelicans were on the protected list of birds for as long
as I could remember, they seem to be numerous in Tampa bay. I remember
the day when after filleting a fish on a local pier a cheeky brown scooped
up the fillets and swallowed them in a flash. A word to the wise,
those necks are long and the birds are quick.
